Saudi Arabia Expels Iranian Diplomats, Issues 24-Hour Exit Order

Riyadh — Saudi Arabia has expelled five Iranian diplomats and ordered them to leave the country within 24 hours after declaring them persona non grata, in a move that signals rising diplomatic tensions between the two nations.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the decision affects Iran’s military attaché, his assistant, and three other embassy officials. Authorities described the action as a response to activities deemed inconsistent with diplomatic norms and a threat to the Kingdom’s security.

Officials in Riyadh accused Iran of being linked to a series of missile and drone incidents targeting Saudi territory, including civilian areas and key infrastructure. The government said such actions violate international law and undermine regional stability.

Saudi Arabia warned that continued developments of this nature could lead to further escalation and a deterioration of diplomatic relations, adding that it reserves the right to take additional measures to protect its sovereignty.

The expulsion comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, with ongoing confrontations involving Iran, the United States, and Israel raising concerns about a broader regional conflict.

Saudi Arabia and Iran had only recently restored diplomatic ties after years of strained relations, making the latest development a significant setback for efforts aimed at easing tensions in the region.
