Former Edo State Governor and Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has advised ex-President Goodluck Jonathan against yielding to pressure to contest the 2027 presidential election, warning that such a move may not be in his best interest.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Oshiomhole said only those who do not genuinely care about Jonathan’s reputation would encourage him to return to active politics.
“It may not be helpful to him. Those who truly love him should advise him to preserve his hard-earned reputation,” Oshiomhole stated.
The former APC National Chairman recalled that Jonathan had already earned national and international respect for peacefully conceding defeat in 2015, a gesture he described as historic.
“Jonathan made a mark when he conceded defeat and said no Nigerian’s blood is worth his ambition. That statement elevated him above many African leaders,” he added.
Oshiomhole argued that the political landscape has changed significantly since Jonathan’s time in office, adding that the former president’s relevance as an elder statesman would be better maintained outside the contest for power.
“He should continue to play his role as a respected voice in Africa. Coming back into partisan politics will only reopen old wounds and diminish his legacy,” Oshiomhole cautioned.
While speculation continues about Jonathan’s possible return in 2027, the former president has yet to make any official declaration regarding his political future.
