The member representing Yamaltu-Deba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Inuwa Garba, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Garba formally announced his defection during a visit to Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, at the Government House, where he presented his APC membership card obtained from his Lubo ward in Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area.
A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, said the lawmaker attributed his decision to consultations with political associates and constituents, as well as what he described as the governor’s purposeful leadership and development strides across the state.
Garba also cited the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a factor that influenced his move to the ruling party.
According to him, the APC offers a more credible and development-driven platform capable of delivering sustainable growth and inclusive governance.
“The APC represents a progressive platform with a clear vision for development. I am convinced that under the leadership of Governor Inuwa Yahaya and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our people will continue to witness meaningful progress,” he said.
He pledged loyalty to the party and expressed readiness to work with its leadership to advance policies that would benefit his constituents and the state at large.
Responding, Governor Yahaya welcomed the lawmaker into the APC, describing the defection as a significant political development for the party in Gombe State.
He said the move reflects growing confidence in the APC’s governance model, which he noted is anchored on infrastructure renewal, human capital development, economic diversification and inclusive growth.
The governor expressed optimism that Garba’s entry into the APC would further strengthen the party’s structure in Yamaltu-Deba and across the state.
Political observers say the defection could consolidate the APC’s position in Gombe State ahead of future elections.
