Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has rejected the creation of state police, warning it could be abused by politicians for partisan interests.
The group argued that Nigeria’s current challenges require strengthening existing security agencies rather than establishing new ones that may worsen insecurity.
NEF stressed that state police could be manipulated by governors and used against political opponents, which may further threaten national unity.
They urged the Federal Government to instead focus on reforming and properly funding the police to enhance their efficiency.
