The Niger State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old man identified as Victor Ugwu for allegedly disguising as a woman to defraud unsuspecting victims through online dating platforms.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect, who resides along Easy Life Street, Kaduna Road, was arrested by a patrol team from the Maje Division on October 16, 2025, around 6 p.m.
The arrest followed a public altercation between the suspect and a man identified simply as Peter, who accused Victor of deceiving him by pretending to be a woman named “Vicky” over the past year. Peter alleged that Victor, posing as a female colleague, had sent him pictures and videos while demanding money and gifts under false pretences.
During a search at the suspect’s residence, police officers recovered several female items, including wigs, makeup kits, and women’s clothing, allegedly used to perfect his disguise during video calls and photo exchanges.
In his confession, Victor admitted to disguising himself as a woman on Facebook and TikTok to attract men and solicit money. He also claimed to have used the fake profiles to gain followers and earn money from social media engagement.
Police said the case is still under investigation, and the suspect will be charged to court upon completion. The command also urged members of the public to be vigilant and verify online relationships before sending money or personal information.
In a related development, the Niger State Police also recovered an abandoned white Volkswagen Golf (registration number RSH 442 FD) along Kaduna Road, suspected to have been stolen from Hayin-Kaduna community.
