The Police Service Commission (PSC) is calling on ordinary Nigerians to become watchdogs by exposing bribery, fraud and sexual harassment during police recruitment, assuring whistleblowers of protection from retaliation.
The Commission said years of entrenched corruption had robbed countless qualified Nigerians of their rightful opportunities, replacing fairness with bribery, favouritism and even sexual exploitation.
Determined to clean up the process, the PSC has launched a whistleblowing initiative that allows citizens to confidentially report misconduct. Offences listed include solicitation of bribes, manipulation of results, falsification of certificates, ghost names on recruitment lists, impersonation, and sexual harassment.
“Your courage can make the difference,” the PSC said in its appeal, stressing that whistleblowers will not face intimidation or punishment under the law.
To make reporting easier, the Commission provided four hotlines — 08065265651, 08059544355, 09159329404 and 08035866677 — and urged citizens to give clear details of any corrupt practice, including the names of those involved.
Officials described the move as part of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, noting that a credible and professional police force is essential to Nigeria’s security and justice system.
