FG Makes Thesis Submission Mandatory for NYSC Mobilisation

The Federal Government has directed that all graduates seeking mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) must submit their final year thesis or project work into the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) as proof of academic output.

The policy, which takes effect from October 6, 2025, makes NERD compliance a prerequisite for mobilisation or exemption from the one-year compulsory service.According to a circular issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the move follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval of revised NYSC criteria aimed at strengthening academic integrity and record keeping.

NERD officials explained that uploaded theses must include details such as the student’s name, supervisor, institution, and department, ensuring transparency and accountability in the nation’s academic system.NERD spokesperson Haula Galadima said the initiative would help curb certificate fraud, promote quality supervision, and establish a reliable national database of scholarly work.

The Federal Government clarified that the directive does not affect current corps members or graduates who had already been mobilised before the enforcement date.
