Plateau Governor Sends 200 Students to India Under Scholarship Scheme

Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has officially dispatched 200 students on scholarship to pursue higher education in India, marking one of the state’s most ambitious overseas education initiatives.

The beneficiaries, selected under the newly launched Mutfwang Legacy Scholarship Scheme, will study degree programmes in Medical Sciences, Engineering, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at Sanskaram University. The send-off ceremony took place on Tuesday in Jos, attracting government officials, parents, and community leaders.

In his address, Governor Mutfwang described the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital development, stressing that the selection process was strictly merit-based and free from political interference. He emphasised that the first batch of scholars earned their placements through hard work and academic excellence.

“What God is giving you through us are wings to fly,” the governor told the departing students, urging them to remain disciplined and focused as they represent Plateau State abroad.

Mutfwang also highlighted new education reforms included in the 2026 budget, such as the establishment of a special research fund for indigenous students and expanded postgraduate programmes at Plateau State University.

Officials and parents at the event praised the governor for the initiative, calling it historic and transformative. Traditional and religious leaders encouraged the scholars to return with knowledge and skills that will contribute to the development of Plateau State and Nigeria
