A United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has said the administration of President Donald Trump will closely monitor Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, underscoring the need for a free, fair, and credible electoral process.
Moore made the remarks during a meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, in Washington, where both officials discussed bilateral relations, democratic governance, regional security, and economic cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
According to the US lawmaker, Nigeria remains a key strategic partner for the United States in Africa, noting that credible elections are vital to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting political stability, and boosting investor confidence.
He added that Washington will continue to engage with Nigerian authorities and other relevant stakeholders as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather pace, while reaffirming the United States’ commitment to expanding cooperation with Nigeria in the areas of security, trade, and democratic development.
