A senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East, marking a major breakthrough in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
The Nigerian military disclosed that the terrorist financier surrendered at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026, to troops of the 3 Battalion, 24 Task Force Brigade, along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis of the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was the chief finance officer of the ISWAP faction operating in Jubillaram, where he was allegedly responsible for managing the group’s financial activities and logistics operations. He surrendered alongside two male children.
The military said troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, and ₦40,000 from the former ISWAP operative.
The development comes amid increased terrorist defections in the region, with about 46 fighters and their family members reportedly surrendering in recent days.
Operation HADIN KAI described the surrender as a major setback to ISWAP’s operational structure, attributing the development to sustained military offensives on land and in the air. The military has again called on remaining insurgents to lay down their arms and urged citizens to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
