
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, Lawan Sani, for allegedly molesting three teenage girls in Unguwar Sarakuna, Bauchi.
Police spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the case was first reported on September 1 following a distress call. Sani was apprehended after allegedly attempting to rape a 16-year-old girl in the residence where he worked as a watchman.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to luring one of the minors with ₦500 and admitted to similar assaults on two other teenagers. According to Wakil, the victims later confirmed the allegations, disclosing that they had been molested over 15 times and threatened to keep silent. Both the suspect and the victims have since been subjected to medical examinations to determine their health status.
In a separate case, police operatives arrested 30-year-old Ibrahim Uzairu of Gombe State on September 6 for allegedly stealing a Toyota Sienna vehicle in Bauchi. The suspect was caught with the car and a set of keys at a hotel along Ahmadu Bello Way. He reportedly confessed to conspiring with two accomplices in Gombe to steal the vehicle.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured residents that the Command is intensifying efforts to combat crimes across the state. He urged community members to collaborate with security agencies to enhance safety and maintain public confidence.
