Panic gripped students of Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia, when armed bandits invaded their off-campus male hostel along Malam Madori Road, leaving two students injured and several phones stolen.
The assailants reportedly struck around midnight, breaking into the hostel and attacking occupants in their sleep. Witnesses said chaos erupted as frightened students tried to escape.
“They injured some of us and took away many phones,” one student said, recalling the harrowing moments. Another resident, Tukur Danlami, noted that neighbours rushed in after hearing screams, forcing the attackers to retreat.
Two students were rushed to Hadejia General Hospital, treated for injuries, and later discharged.
Confirming the attack, police spokesperson SP Shi’isu Adam said the hostel’s isolated location made it vulnerable. He assured that security presence had been reinforced and investigations were underway.
The attack has stirred fresh concerns over student safety in Jigawa, with many calling for tighter patrols around off-campus hostels to prevent a repeat of the incident.
