Former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address Nigerians personally on major national issues instead of communicating through aides and presidential spokespersons.
Ndume made the appeal while speaking with journalists after a closed-door meeting with the President. He said direct communication from the nation’s leader would help strengthen public confidence and reassure Nigerians at a time when the country is facing economic hardship and growing security challenges.
According to the senator, Nigerians deserve to hear directly from President Tinubu on the government’s plans and policies aimed at tackling inflation, the rising cost of living, insecurity and other issues affecting the country.
He noted that while presidential aides play important roles in communicating government activities, certain sensitive national matters require direct engagement by the President to demonstrate leadership and accountability.
Ndume expressed the belief that regular interaction between the President and citizens would foster greater trust, reduce speculation and enable Nigerians to better understand the government’s efforts to address the nation’s challenges.
The lawmaker’s remarks came shortly after his meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, although details of their private discussion were not disclosed.
His comments come amid continued public concern over the country’s economic conditions and persistent security challenges, with many Nigerians calling for more direct communication from the Presidency on measures being taken to address the situation.
