The Plateau State Police Command has cautioned its officers against unlawfully demanding or searching the mobile phones of members of the public without legal authority.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bassey Ewah, issued the directive while addressing police personnel in Jos, stressing that such practices violate citizens’ rights and would not be tolerated.
Ewah reminded officers to carry out their duties professionally and in line with the law, urging them to respect the fundamental rights of residents while maintaining public safety and order.
The warning comes amid growing public concerns over the unlawful search of mobile phones by security personnel in parts of the country.
