Kano State is witnessing a massive security presence around the Government House following reports that Governor Abba Yusuf plans to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that has generated significant tension across the state.
According to Daily Nigerian, the deployment of security forces is in response to backlash from supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement and other political groups opposed to the governor’s defection. Security sources confirmed that the measures aim to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order.
“It’s obvious that this decision has provoked many supporters of the governor and the Kwankwasiyya movement. The governor is not finding it easy,” one source said.
Observers note that the situation underscores the volatile nature of party politics in Kano, where defections by prominent politicians often trigger heightened security measures and political tension.
