Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two men impersonating policemen and intercepted two Hilux vehicles loaded with cannabis in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The suspects were apprehended at Takum Junction while dressed in mobile police uniforms. Preliminary checks revealed that none of the men are serving police officers. They were identified as Monday George, a 71-year-old dismissed Police Assistant Superintendent, and 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche.
According to the Army, the vehicles, loaded with 1,134 blocks of cannabis, were traced to have originated from Akure, Ondo State, and were en route to Adamawa State before they were intercepted. Occupants of the second Hilux abandoned the vehicle and fled on sighting the troops.
The seized drugs and arrested suspects have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops and NDLEA operatives for the successful operation. He assured that the Army would sustain its efforts under Operation Lafiya Nakowa to rid Taraba State of criminals and drug traffickers, while urging residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
