FG, ASUU Reach New Deal as Professors Set to Receive ₦140,000 Monthly Allowance

The Federal Government has approved a new monthly allowance of ₦140,000 for professors in Nigerian universities following a fresh agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The announcement was made by the Minister of Education, who confirmed that the development is part of ongoing efforts to address longstanding welfare concerns within the nation’s university system and to strengthen industrial harmony between the government and academic staff.

According to the minister, the allowance forms a key component of the latest FG–ASUU agreement, aimed at improving remuneration, boosting morale, and enhancing the quality of teaching and research across public universities.

He noted that the agreement reflects the government’s commitment to sustaining dialogue with university lecturers and implementing policies that support the growth of the education sector.

ASUU officials are expected to brief their members on the details of the deal in the coming days, as stakeholders await full implementation of the new allowance framework.
