The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has dismissed a lawsuit seeking the removal of Arabic inscriptions from the Nigerian Army’s emblem.
Delivering its judgment on Wednesday, the court ruled that the plaintiff lacked the legal standing to institute the case on behalf of all Nigerians.
The court held that a single individual could not claim to represent the collective interests of the entire Nigerian population in a matter involving the official insignia of the Nigerian Army.
The suit had challenged the continued use of Arabic script on the Army’s logo, urging the court to order its removal. However, the court declined the request, citing the plaintiff’s inability to establish the legal authority to bring such an action in a representative capacity.
With the ruling, the Arabic inscription on the Nigerian Army’s emblem remains unchanged.
