Babcock University has rejected claims by Nigerian content creator Carter Efe that he graduated from the institution with a “first class upper” degree in Biochemistry, describing the certificate he presented as false, unauthorised, and fraudulent.
In a statement released on Monday, the university said the document being circulated did not originate from the institution and contained academic classifications that do not exist in its grading system. According to the university, the term “first class upper” is not recognised in its degree classification, raising serious concerns about the authenticity of the certificate.
Babcock University maintained that the alleged certificate was fabricated and warned that the circulation of forged academic documents undermines the integrity and reputation of the institution.
The university further announced that it has commenced legal proceedings against Carter Efe over the alleged certificate forgery, stressing that it will pursue the matter through the appropriate legal channels.
The development follows widespread circulation of the certificate on social media, where Carter Efe claimed to have earned a first-class degree in Biochemistry from the university. However, the institution insists the claim is false and has vowed to take all necessary legal steps to protect its academic credibility.
