The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned one Salifu Olije Mustapha before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kubwa, Abuja, over allegations of impersonating law enforcement officers and defrauding members of the public.
Mustapha was brought before Justice A.I. Akobi on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, on a four-count charge bordering on impersonation, misrepresentation, and related offences.
According to the prosecution, he allegedly posed as an officer of both the EFCC and the Nigerian Air Force and aided accomplices in carrying out fraudulent activities. He was said to have transported suspects dressed in EFCC operational uniforms in a Toyota Corolla to a location in Abuja, where they allegedly targeted unsuspecting victims.
In one of the charges, the defendant was accused of abetting others to commit fraud by presenting them as EFCC operatives. Another count alleged that he falsely represented himself as a Nigerian Air Force officer and used the disguise to defraud members of the public.
Mustapha pleaded guilty to all four counts when they were read in court, prompting the prosecution to request his conviction and sentencing.
Justice Akobi subsequently adjourned the case to June 1, 2026, for sentencing.
The EFCC said the defendant was arrested following intelligence reports linking him to impersonation activities, during which he and alleged accomplices were reportedly seen harassing motorists while posing as commission operatives.
