The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland handed down the six-year sentence over terrorism-related offences.
The court found him guilty of inciting unrest and participating in the activities of a terrorist organization.
According to Finland’s YLE newspaper, the court stated that Ekpa used “his large social media following” to fuel violence in southeastern Nigeria between August 2021 and November 2024.
The court also established that Ekpa was a key figure in an armed separatist group whose aim was to break up Nigeria and create the state of Biafra.In addition, the court confirmed that Ekpa supplied weapons, explosives, and ammunition “through his contacts in the region,” and was also found guilty of encouraging his followers on the social media platform X to commit crimes in Nigeria.
