In a significant breakthrough for peace in Katsina State, bandits operating in the Batagarawa and Charanchi local government areas have agreed to permanently cease attacks, kidnappings, and ransom-seeking activities.
The peace agreement was reached on Saturday, November 8, 2025, following negotiations between community leaders and representatives of the bandits. The discussions, held at Wurma Forest in Kurfi Local Government, involved officials from both local governments, including Hon. Yahaya Lawal Kawo of Batagarawa and Hon. Ibrahim Sani Koda, represented by his deputy, Hon. Aminu Hassan Yan Albasa, alongside other community elders.
The bandits, led by Alhaji Usman Ruga Kachalla, Sani Mohindinge, and Alhaji Shu’aibu, agreed to maintain peace and requested freedom to carry out their activities within the areas without interference, pledging to stop all acts of violence, kidnapping, and cattle rustling.
As part of the agreement, the bandits also proposed the appointment of some of their leaders (Ardos) to help sustain the peace process and encouraged ongoing dialogue with the local authorities. Traditional leaders, including the Sarkin Shanun Katsina, Hakimin Charanchi Alhaji Abashe Abdulkadir, and the Mallawan Katsina, representing Hakimin Batagarawa, Magaji Dabaibayawa, attended and endorsed the accord.
The pact marks a critical step toward long-term stability in the affected communities, fostering collaboration between the state’s authorities and former perpetrators of violence.
