The Yobe State Government has raised concern over the poor attendance of candidates at the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment screening exercise in the state.
The government said many applicants who were shortlisted for the screening failed to show up, a development it described as troubling and capable of affecting the state’s chances of filling its recruitment quota.
Speaking during an inspection of the exercise, the Chairman of the Yobe State Army Recruitment Committee and Special Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdul-Salam (rtd), disclosed that out of 2,431 shortlisted candidates, only 1,605 reported for the screening.
According to him, the absence of over 800 candidates could significantly reduce the number of successful recruits from the state if the trend continues.
Abdul-Salam attributed the low turnout to factors such as poor communication, misinformation about the recruitment process, and lack of seriousness among some applicants.
He urged community leaders, parents, and the media to help mobilise and sensitise eligible youths on the importance of participating fully in the exercise before the screening ends.
The Yobe State Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army recruitment process and encouraged qualified candidates to seize the opportunity to serve the country.
