Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday administered the oath of office to Joseph Ikpea and Emmanuel Nwachukwu as new members of the Nigerian Senate.
Ikpea, representing Edo Central under the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Nwachukwu, representing Anambra South under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), were sworn in following recent by-elections to fill vacant seats.
The vacancies arose after the former Edo Central Senator assumed office as a state governor, while the Anambra South seat became vacant following the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
Following their induction, the Senate now comprises 71 APC members, 28 from the PDP, five from the Labour Party, two from the SDP, one from the NNPP, and two from APGA, making up the full 109-member chamber.
Senate President Akpabio congratulated the new lawmakers and urged them to uphold legislative ethics, study the Constitution, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
