The state chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa, Shehu Kambile, has resigned from his role as special assistant to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the party announced on Wednesday.
Kambile said the decision is part of a broader strategy to concentrate on strengthening the ADC as the main opposition force in the state. He explained his appointment under the Inter‑Party Advisory Council (IPAC) framework but indicated he must now step aside from government service to fully devote himself to building a “robust and effective opposition.”
Reacting to the resignation, former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar praised Kambile’s commitment to the party, calling the move a reaffirmation of his dedication to restoring “true democracy” in Nigeria.
The ADC in Adamawa is currently divided into three rival factions, each claiming the legitimate state chairmanship: one loyal to Babachir Lawal, another backing Aishatu Binani and a third that supports the incumbent, Shehu Yohanna.
Kambile’s departure from the government role marks a strategic shift ahead of expected realignments in the state’s opposition politics.
