Abia Sacks Six Workers Over Salary Fraud

The Abia State Government has dismissed six staff of the Ministry of Justice for allegedly manipulating the state payroll system to collect excess salaries.

Chairman of the Abia State Civil Service Commission, Pastor Eno Eze, disclosed this after an internal audit uncovered the irregularities. He explained that the affected workers deliberately falsified payment records to enrich themselves.

Governor Alex Otti has directed a formal probe into the activities of the state Salary Committee to determine its possible involvement in the fraud.

Meanwhile, one staff member, identified as Chioma Madu, was cleared of wrongdoing after voluntarily reporting an overpayment error and refunding the money.

The government said the dismissed workers will face prosecution, stressing that the action reflects its zero tolerance for corruption in the public service.
