The Nigeria Police Force has detained Friday Alefia, publisher of Naija News Today, for over two weeks, allegedly on the orders of Hon. Chinedu Ogah, who represents Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
According to reports, Alefia was picked up and has remained in custody without trial, prompting widespread concern from media advocates and his family members. His relatives have appealed to the authorities to intervene and secure his immediate release, describing his continued detention as unjust and politically motivated.
Neither the police nor Hon. Ogah has issued an official statement regarding the allegations. Meanwhile, press freedom organisations have called for Alefia’s unconditional release, insisting that journalists must not be persecuted for performing their duties.
