The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 33-year-old woman whose body was discovered in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were identified as 26-year-old Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara and 20-year-old Makuochukwu Uzoigwe.
Police said the case began on March 13, 2026, when the victim’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters. A day later, the body of an unidentified woman was found in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite and was subsequently identified by her father as his missing daughter.
Following a detailed investigation by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka, the suspects were arrested on June 6, 2026, through intelligence gathering and digital forensic tracking.
During interrogation, the principal suspect, Ikwugwara, allegedly confessed to the crime. He claimed he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years and only later discovered that she was married. Police said he further alleged that a disagreement with the woman’s husband led to resentment, which he claimed motivated the attack.
Investigators said the suspect confessed that he lured the victim to his residence on March 13 under the pretext of seeking assistance due to illness. Upon her arrival, he and the second suspect allegedly attacked and killed her before disposing of her body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in the early hours of the following day.
The police stated that both suspects have confessed to their roles in the incident and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
