Fear Grips Ebonyi–Benue Border Community After Gunmen Kill Cattle

Tension has escalated in Ataroga, a border community linking Ebonyi State and Benue State, after suspected gunmen reportedly killed several cows.

Residents said the incident has heightened anxiety in the area, with fears of possible reprisals and a breakdown of peace between neighboring communities. The attack, which targeted cattle belonging to local herders, was reported to have occurred in the early hours of the day, though no casualties among residents were immediately confirmed.

Community leaders have called for calm while urging security agencies to intervene promptly to prevent further violence. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but security operatives are said to be monitoring the situation as investigations continue.

The development adds to growing concerns over recurring security challenges in border communities across the region.
