An 18-year-old farmer, Isaye Kundili, has lost his life in Jatori village, Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, after a confrontation with a herder turned deadly.
Witnesses said the tragedy unfolded on Friday afternoon when cattle strayed into Kundili’s millet and beans field.
In a bid to protect the crops he had labored over, the teenager attempted to chase the animals away.The herder, angered by the confrontation, allegedly shot Kundili in the chest with a bow and arrow before fleeing the scene.
Neighbors rushed the young farmer to the Gubio Primary Health Care Centre, but despite efforts to save him, he was confirmed dead. His remains have since been laid to rest according to Islamic rites, leaving his grieving family and community in shock.
Community members described Kundili as a hardworking youth who had devoted himself to farming in hopes of supporting his family. His death has reignited fears over the recurring clashes between farmers and herders in Borno State.
Police authorities confirmed the incident and assured that efforts are underway, in collaboration with herders’ unions, to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect.
