Two people have been confirmed dead and five others injured following a bandit attack on Rachi community in the Bachi District of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Thursday night around 8:00 p.m. when suspected Fulani militias reportedly invaded the community, shooting sporadically and attacking residents.
National President of the Berom Youths Moulder Association (BYM), Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Jos. He said the attackers took the villagers by surprise, leaving two dead and several others with gunshot wounds.
Mwantiri condemned the renewed violence and called on security agencies to intensify patrols in the area to prevent further attacks.
The latest assault adds to the series of attacks recorded in Riyom and neighboring local government areas in recent weeks, which have sparked growing concerns over the deteriorating security situation in parts of Plateau State.
