Suspected bandits have launched fresh attacks across several communities in Kwara State, leaving a policeman dead, a pregnant woman killed, and multiple villagers abducted.
The assailants first invaded Chekugi village in Edu Local Government Area, where four residents were kidnapped. In a separate incident at Matokun village, Patigi LGA, gunmen killed a pregnant woman, injured five others, and abducted 12 villagers. Four later escaped, while eight remain in captivity.
At Agbonran in Ifelodun LGA, armed men stormed a mining site and killed Corporal Salisu Shamaki, a police orderly attached to a Chinese company. Three other policemen are missing, though the Chinese workers escaped unharmed.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the policeman’s death and said investigations are ongoing into the coordinated attacks.
Since the beginning of 2025, communities in Patigi, Kaiama, Baruten, Edu, and Ifelodun LGAs have suffered repeated assaults, with villagers killed, abducted, and displaced. Community leaders are calling for urgent government intervention and enhanced security presence to protect residents.
