
Edo State, Nigeria – September 6, 2025 – Gunmen ambushed a convoy along the Okpella–Agenebode road in Edo State on Friday night, killing eight officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and a civilian driver, while abducting a Chinese national.
The convoy was transporting the Chinese national from BUA Cement Company, Okpella, when armed attackers struck at approximately 10:30 p.m.
According to the NSCDC, 12 personnel were on duty for the escort. Nine, including Chief Corps Assistant Oluwatosin Sunday from the Ondo State Command, lost their lives, while three survivors are receiving medical attention.
The remains of the victims have been taken to the mortuary. The NSCDC praised the bravery of the fallen officers and said that security agencies are intensifying efforts to rescue the abducted Chinese national and apprehend the attackers.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the region and underscores the risks faced by personnel protecting critical national infrastructure.
