Zambian Vice President Mutale Nalumango escaped unhurt after a Zambia Air Force helicopter carrying her crashed moments after taking off in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province, on Thursday.
The vice president was travelling with seven other occupants when the military aircraft went down shortly after departure. Authorities confirmed that everyone on board survived the crash without injuries.
In a statement issued after the incident, the Zambian government said emergency responders quickly arrived at the crash site and confirmed the safety of all passengers and crew.
Vice President Nalumango had been in Nakonde to attend official engagements before the accident occurred. The circumstances surrounding the crash have not yet been disclosed.
The Zambia Air Force and other relevant authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Officials are expected to examine the aircraft’s condition, weather, and other factors that may have contributed to the incident.
