The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that a violent windstorm has destroyed at least 179 houses in several communities in Edo State, leaving more than 2,000 residents displaced.
According to NEMA, the disaster occurred in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, where strong winds damaged residential buildings and other infrastructure, forcing many families to flee their homes.
The agency said affected residents are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, including shelter, food, and medical supplies.
Officials have begun assessing the extent of the damage, while arrangements are being made to provide relief materials to victims of the disaster.
NEMA also called on relevant authorities and humanitarian partners to support ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the windstorm.
