A consultant anaesthetist in the United Kingdom has been exposed for abandoning a patient during surgery to engage in a sexual act with a nurse.
The doctor, Dr. Suhail Anjum, 44, left the operating theatre at Tameside Hospital in Greater Manchester while a patient was under anaesthesia, asking a colleague to monitor the patient in his absence.
Instead of returning promptly, he went into another surgical theatre where he was caught in a compromising position with a nurse, identified as Nurse C. A shocked staff member walked in and discovered the pair, after which Dr. Anjum returned to complete the operation.
He was absent for around eight minutes, creating what regulators described as a serious risk to patient safety.
Appearing before a medical tribunal, Dr. Anjum admitted his conduct was “shameful,” apologised to his colleagues and the hospital, and accepted that he had violated professional and ethical standards.
Although the patient was not harmed, the incident has drawn widespread condemnation and raised serious concerns about professional discipline and accountability in healthcare.
