Tinubu Signs Four New Tax Bills into Law to Modernise Nigeria’s Revenue System

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved and signed into law four new tax bills aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax administration and modernising the country’s fiscal system.

The newly enacted laws are part of the government’s broader strategy to create a more transparent, efficient, and business-friendly tax environment while improving revenue generation to fund national development projects.

According to the Presidency, the four bills focus on streamlining the existing tax framework, simplifying compliance procedures, and closing loopholes that have long hindered effective tax collection. They also introduce new provisions to make the system fairer for individuals and corporate entities alike.

Economic experts have described the reforms as a significant step toward achieving a more sustainable revenue structure. The new measures are expected to encourage voluntary tax compliance, attract investments, and align Nigeria’s fiscal policies with global best practices.

The government noted that one of the major objectives of the new tax regime is to ensure that personal income taxation becomes more progressive and responsive to current economic realities. The reforms also aim to enhance coordination between federal and state tax authorities to reduce cases of double taxation and administrative inefficiencies.

These developments form part of President Tinubu’s ongoing fiscal and economic reform agenda, which prioritises improved domestic revenue mobilisation and a fairer tax burden distribution among citizens and businesses.
