The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has denied signing any agreement with the management of Dangote Refinery, insisting that the suspended strike action could resume if its demands remain unmet.
The oil workers’ union had called off its nationwide strike on Sunday following the intervention of the Federal Government. But PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, said on Wednesday that the document released after the meeting was not an agreement but a statement from the Minister of Labour.
Osifo explained that the core issues in dispute, including the alleged dismissal of more than 800 workers at the refinery, were not resolved. He added that the union would not hesitate to return to industrial action if Dangote management fails to address the concerns.
“The communiqué that was circulated was not signed by us. Our demands remain valid, and if there is no meaningful resolution, the strike will continue,” he warned.
The development has raised fears of fresh disruptions in the downstream oil sector should talks between both parties collapse.
