London, United Kingdom President Bola Tinubu has dispatched a high-level delegation to the United Kingdom to initiate talks on the possible transfer of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to Nigeria to serve the remainder of his prison sentence.
According to PUNCH Online, the Federal Government is exploring a bilateral arrangement that would enable Ekweremadu who has been in UK custody since March 2023 to complete his jail term under Nigerian correctional supervision.
The delegation, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, held discussions on Monday with officials of the UK Ministry of Justice in London.
After the meeting, the Nigerian officials were received at the Nigerian High Commission by the Acting High Commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Mohammed Maidugu.
The diplomatic engagement marks one of the strongest moves yet by the Tinubu administration to secure the transfer of the embattled former senator, who was convicted in connection with an organ-harvesting case.
