The Federal Government has announced the arrest of seven suspected commanders of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) following their return from the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed on Friday that the suspects were apprehended by security agencies at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina State.
According to the minister, the arrests were made possible through the integration of Nigeria’s National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database with immigration systems and international security networks, enabling authorities to identify and intercept the suspects upon their arrival.
Tunji-Ojo said the development highlights the growing role of technology and inter-agency collaboration in strengthening Nigeria’s border security and counterterrorism efforts.
