Concerns over the health of Cameroonian President have intensified after the 93-year-old leader remained out of the public eye for six weeks.
Biya has not been seen publicly since Cameroon’s National Day celebrations on May 20. Government officials have maintained that the president is in Switzerland but have released no recent images or public appearances to confirm his condition.
Speculation grew after Jeune Afrique reported that Biya allegedly collapsed during a reception following the National Day celebrations and was discreetly flown to a private clinic in Geneva on June 7 for treatment related to a knee problem. The Cameroonian government has dismissed the report as “malicious and unfounded,” while providing no additional details about the president’s health.
Adding to the uncertainty, Biya’s daughter, , reportedly stated in a video that her father was “dying.” However, observers have noted that she has previously made dramatic public statements that were later retracted or clarified.
At present, there has been no independent verification of the president’s medical condition. The lack of official updates has fueled speculation both within Cameroon and internationally, with many citizens questioning the transparency surrounding the health of Africa’s second-longest-serving head of state.
