The Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano State, Sa’adatu Maijama’a, narrowly escaped death after she was attacked by suspected political thugs during an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally held in Rano town.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred when the rally was ongoing and a group of unidentified individuals suddenly advanced toward Ms Maijama’a, creating panic among attendees. The attackers were said to have hurled objects in her direction, causing chaos and forcing people at the venue to scatter in different directions for safety.
Ms Maijama’a, who also serves as the Chairperson of Tudun Wada Local Government Area, was quickly moved out of the scene by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS), who intervened within moments of the escalation. Their prompt action reportedly prevented the situation from degenerating further.
Eyewitnesses described the atmosphere as tense and confusing, with supporters and participants rushing for cover as security operatives struggled to restore order. The exact cause of the attack remains unclear, and it is not yet confirmed whether any arrests were made in connection with the incident.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, as concerns continue to grow over rising political tensions in parts of the state during campaign-related activities.
