Jigawa Governor Commissions ₦1.2bn Solar Project despite insecurity, lack of good infrastructure in educational sector

JigawaGovernor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has inaugurated a ₦1.2 billion, 500KWp solar-hybrid mini grid project in Kafin Hausa town, describing it as a “visionary investment” to boost electricity supply and economic growth.

Speaking at the commissioning on Saturday, Namadi praised the partnership with Future Energies Africa (FEA) and the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), stressing his administration’s commitment to renewable energy as a sustainable solution to rising power demand.The FEA representative, Ahmad Zakari, said the hybrid system sets “a new standard” by blending conventional and modern energy sources to guarantee stable power.

Also, KEDCO’s Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Jimeta, detailed the project’s components, which include a 500KWp solar plant, a 3.5km 33kV line, and transformers supplying power to key areas of Kafin Hausa such as NEPA Office, Kofar Fada, Akarami, Bakin Kasuwa, Ashura, Kwazalewa, Kafasa, Balangu, Maru, and Yakasai.

Jigawa Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Surajo Musa, highlighted the socio-economic impact, noting that steady electricity will support agriculture, food storage, irrigation, businesses, and job creation.He added that the project would raise living standards, drive economic growth, and strengthen food security across the state.
