Japanese authorities have lifted a megaquake advisory issued for the country’s northeast coast, a week after a powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck the region.
The Japan Meteorological Agency and the Cabinet Office announced the decision while urging residents to remain cautious and prepared for possible aftershocks.
During the advisory period, residents in affected areas had been instructed to take emergency precautions, including sleeping in their day clothes and keeping helmets, shoes, and emergency bags close at hand.
With the advisory now lifted, those measures are no longer required, although officials stressed the importance of ongoing disaster preparedness in one of the world’s most seismically active regions.
