Israel has pledged to completely destroy Hamas’ network of underground tunnels in Gaza as its military operations in the enclave continue to escalate.
In a statement on Friday, Israeli defense officials said the ongoing attacks were focused on uncovering and demolishing the militant group’s extensive tunnel infrastructure, which they described as a key element of Hamas’ military capabilities.
The Israeli army said ground and air forces were working “in coordination” to target tunnel entrances and command centers believed to be used for storing weapons and launching attacks.
Meanwhile, reports from Gaza indicate that the renewed bombardment has caused further casualties and destruction in several densely populated areas, worsening the humanitarian crisis.
International aid groups have again appealed for an immediate ceasefire, warning that the conflict’s impact on civilians is reaching catastrophic levels.
