People across the Middle East are watching closely to see how and when US President Donald Trump will respond to Iran’s nearly three-week-long uprising against the country’s Islamic regime, as the United States deploys a naval armada now en route to the region.
Despite reports that the death toll may have reached as high as 30,000, Iranian-born activist Amir Hamidi says the protests remain strong and are being driven by widespread public anger.
Speaking to CBN News, Hamidi said the movement spans the country and reflects a unified demand for political change.
“From Azerbaijan to Baluchistan to Kurdistan to the southern parts of Iran, from Tehran to Tabriz to Mashhad, I hear one voice,” he said. “They want regime change. They want freedom. They want a normal life.”
Hamidi alleged that government forces are responding with violence, claiming that security personnel have targeted civilians, including children, and in some cases withheld bodies unless families pay to retrieve them for burial.
