Gunmen kill 42, abduct children in Niger communities

No fewer than 42 people have been killed, while several others, including children, were abducted following attacks by gunmen on communities in Agwarra and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State.

Sources disclosed that the attackers have been raiding villages in Agwarra for more than a week, reportedly without any resistance.

Residents said the gunmen unleashed violence on multiple communities before abducting scores of people, including pupils and students of St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwarra.

A source told TheCable that 37 people were killed in Kasuwa Daji near Papiri, while five others lost their lives in Kaima village. The source added that many residents, including schoolchildren, were taken away by the assailants.
