Gunmen Abduct 5 Varsity Students, Hijack Bus — 14 Passengers Taken in Rivers & Imo

Gunmen launched coordinated attacks in Rivers and Imo states, leading to the abduction of five students of Rivers State University (RSU) and 14 passengers travelling in a commercial bus.

The incident in Rivers occurred around 2:30 a.m. at an off-campus lodge near the university’s Emohua satellite campus in Emohua Local Government Area. The armed men reportedly shot and killed the security dog guarding the compound before whisking away the five students. Local residents say repeated complaints about insecurity in the area had earlier been raised with the school authorities.

In a separate attack in Imo State, suspected gunmen hijacked a commercial bus heading from Owerri to Aba near the Ngor-Okpala axis. Witnesses reported that the attackers emerged from the bush, fired shots into the air, and forced all 14 passengers out of the vehicle before abducting them.

Security agencies in both states have yet to issue detailed statements, while families of the victims remain anxious as investigations continue.
