At least eight people have lost their lives following flash floods and landslides that ravaged northern Vietnam after days of torrential rainfall, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
According to Vietnam’s disaster management agency, the downpour submerged several homes, destroyed farmland, and swept away livestock in mountainous provinces. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency workers combing through debris for missing persons.
Local officials reported that the most affected areas include Yen Bai, Lao Cai, and Son La provinces, where swollen rivers and unstable slopes triggered multiple landslides.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered emergency relief measures, including evacuation of residents from high-risk zones and restoration of damaged infrastructure.
Meteorological authorities have warned that more rain is expected in the coming days, raising fears of additional flooding and landslides in the region.
