Hundreds of students on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest in Oyo State to express solidarity with the Dangote Refinery, urging the Federal Government to safeguard the multibillion-dollar facility from perceived threats and challenges.
The demonstrators, wearing branded T-shirts with inscriptions such as “Don’t Kill Dangote Refinery” and “Support Local Production,” marched through major streets, chanting slogans that called for the protection of indigenous industries and self-sufficiency in petroleum refining.
Speaking during the rally, some of the student leaders said their action was aimed at urging the authorities to ensure an uninterrupted supply of crude oil to the refinery and prevent any policy or corporate interference that could undermine its operation.
They described the refinery as a “national pride” capable of ending Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuel and creating massive employment opportunities for youths.
Security operatives were seen monitoring the protest to ensure it remained peaceful.
The students also appealed to stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to prioritize national interest over foreign influence, warning that any attempt to frustrate the refinery’s operations would attract nationwide resistance.
